How do you cut the maze out of the corn?
We have a custom design made each year that is mapped out using
computers and a Satellite GPS system that is accurate within an
inch. The cutting out of the maze only takes about 5 hours with a
tractor that is equipped with the GPS on-board computers. One
interesting fact is we do this during the night when it's cool, so we
don't need to see where we are going since we are using the
computer to guide us.
How long does it take to finish the maze?
It takes up to 2 hours when we first open the maze to find all 6
punch stations. However, if your really good it can be completed in
under 1 hour.
What kind of corn do you plant?
We plant what farmers call Cow Corn , or Silage Corn. This type of
corn has a strong stalk and broad leaves. The hybrid type of corn
we plant grows very well in NC's heat of the summer with little
rain, and is also resistant to worms and can grow to over 13 feet
tall. If a bug or worm eats the corn they get very sick and can't
reproduce.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes, we allow dogs on a leash.
Who puts on Maize Adventure?
Maize Adventure was started in 1999. Kersey Valley, Inc owned
and operated by Tony and Donna Wohlgemuth. The same company
that puts on the Kersey Valley Spookywoods Haunted Attraction
every year on the same farm as the corn maze since 1985. Make
sure you visit Spookywoods and visit the farm again in October for
some scary fun! The newest attraction is Kersey Valley Zip Line
Tour. Over 1.5 miles of zipping over the corn maze and through the
woods, a family fun adventure sure to please!
